Style:

  • Our inspiration has been the work of BKS Iyengar & his senior teachers with whom we continue to study. Collectively, our four teachers have practiced for more than 100 years!

  • This style emphasizes specific anatomical alignment, thereby enhancing ease of movement, strength, flexibility, stamina and general well-being, while facilitating a focused and quiet mind. Yoga is a process as much as it is a series of poses.

Sessions:

  • Our classes are offered in sessions of 10-12 weeks, depending on the season. Classes build from week to week so you will progress to more challenging poses and sequences. Your consistent attendance will help you advance to the next level.

Classes:

  • Each class begins with a few minutes of quiet “centering,” to shift your attention away from your busy day.  Poses will build, one upon the other, throughout the class. You gradually work toward more complex poses within the class and over the course of the series.  There is a period of relaxation at the end of the class.

Poses:

  • We teach traditional yoga poses that may be modified using props such as straps, blankets, chairs and blocks.  Each student is encouraged to work at her or his own level.  Yoga is for everyone. There is no need to have a certain amount of flexibility or strength in order to begin.

The Studio

  • Established in 1990 in a historic downtown building, our studio has a beautiful 1000 sq. ft. oak floor and a serene atmosphere. For use during class, we provide high quality mats, cotton blankets, blocks, straps, bolsters and chairs.
